NEW YEAR'S EVE GALA CELEBRATION
Thursday, December 31, 2009 • 6:45 - Midnight

SFCA's annual New Year's Eve gala dinner was a smash hit! More than 100 persons gathered at La Posada de Santa Fe for a luscious five-course dinner with paired wines, a special chocolate dessert bar, entertainment and dance music by The Three Faces of Jazz, and surprise ring-in-2010 performances by soprano Virginia Browning, violinist Lisamarie Vana, singer-songwriter Nicki Rood, and SFCA artistic director Joseph Illick.

The event followed a transcendental performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 by American pianist Andrew von Oeyen and the SFCA Orchestra conducted by Joseph Illick, and a second half anchored by Dvorak's "New World" Symphony. Two members of the EPIK Kids program were surprise performers before the Dvorak: boy soprano Eric Illick and mezzo-soprano Maya Rose Tweten performed Rossini's amusing "Cat Duet" and the sardonic "The Twelve Days AFTER Christmas."

The concert was sold out, and more than 250 persons were turned away at the box office. In the same way, the gala dinner was a sell-out.
