True Love Gone Hopelessly Wrong!!!
4:00pm, January 28, 2012, Tristan and Isolde

General Admission Price: $25.00

The Santa Fe Concert Association and The Wagner Society of Santa Fe present an intimate look at Tristan and Isolde featuring Joseph Illick and soprano Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet

Tristan and Isolde is Richard Wagner's retelling of the epic medieval love story of passion and betrayal. Sir Tristan is a knight who serves King Mark of Cornwall. Isolde, an Irish princess, is to be married against her will to King Mark. Tristan is in charge of transporting her by ship from Ireland to Cornwall. Isolde's mother, a powerful sorceress, has sent two magic potions with Isolde on the journey. The first is a love potion that Isolde is supposed to drink when she is with King Mark so that she will be happy in her marriage with him. The second is a death potion in case the first potion doesn't work.

Joseph Illick will tell the story of Tristan and Isolde, play some of the most rapturous, sensual, transcendent love music ever written, and talk about the life and music of Wagner. Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet has sung leading soprano roles all over the world. She has appeared on the stages of Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, Bordeaux, Berlin, Venice, Bregenz, Florence, Geneva, Naples, Oslo, Strasbourg, Cologne, Nantes, Marseilles, Toulouse, Santiago, and Dallas.

Come & find out what Isolde will choose to do!

Joseph Illick, Notes on Music: Rossini

Presented by:
Joseph Illick, SFCA Executive and Artistic Director, with mezzo-soprano Alissa Anderson and tenor Javier Abreu. Hear an evening of Rossini's sparkling music along with delightful stories from his extremely colorful life.

Gioachino Antonio Rossini was one of the greatest Italian opera composers, and he was certainly the wittiest, both on and off the stage. He also became one of the most celebrated chefs in Paris!

Although he has the reputation of being lazy, he composed as many as seven operas in a year during his youth. He revolutionized the dramatic standards of opera, creating roles that demanded both great artistry and athleticism. In an art form dominated by sopranos, mezzo-sopranos will be forever grateful to Rossini for creating dozens of superb leading roles for them. It's no surprise, since Rossini was married to one of Europe's greatest mezzo-sopranos!
Joseph Illick has been Executive and Artistic Director of the Santa Fe Concert Association since May 2008. Mr. Illick is also Music Director and Principal Conductor of Fort Worth Opera, a post which he has held since 2002. Mr. Illick is also a composer and concert pianist.

Mr. Illick's lectures and informal talks on classical music, composing and opera, illustrated with live musical examples, are extremely popular – including his "Notes on Music" for SFCA. He has given hundreds of live presentations to audiences around the United States and in Europe, as well as on numerous radio and television broadcasts about classical and symphonic music.
